A Birth That is Now Happy: A Poem for My Mother

I bless my mother’s body

By blessing my own

My legs develop from her in the womb

I am always a part of her

If I cursed her I cursed myself

Woman without women

A world filled with male gaze

All I wanted was my mothers

The beat of her heart echoes through my life

Sacrificing her life for my own, not understanding the triumphs back then were for this moment now

Love is the only way I know how to live

Because of my mother’s blessings and curses

I take care of myself because I somehow hope that it connects to her body too

For when her body is frail I will carry hers as she carried mine

Happy Birthday everyday to my mother
